Hebron, Nebraska is home to more than 1500 people. We are located in the South Central part of Nebraska. Hebron's location along Highway 81 provides many economic opportunities. Travelers headed anywhere from Texas to Canada pass right along by as others swing through town to see some of the attractions Hebron has to offer. Among the attractions Hebron has to offer are the following:
The world's largest Porchswing is located in downtown Hebron at Roosevelt Park. The idea to build the porchswing came back in the 1980's. With some irrigation pipe, a few hundred dollars and community support the World's largest porchswing came to be... From tour groups to wedding parties to people just passing through town... many people like to have their picture taken on the swing!
We must go back in history much further than the days of the Pioneers to discover how Hebron got its name... all the way back to the beginning... Through the book of Genesis in the Bible some historians classify Hebron as one of the oldest towns on record. It was from this ancient city that members of the “Disciples of Christ,” congregation, through inspiration, named this town, “Hebron,” back in 1869. Some pronounce it Hebron with a long “e”, while others pronounce it Hebron with a short “e.” The Bible name is with a short “e.”
Worth noting, a few miles down the road is the town of Gilead, also named after an ancient city in Palestine. Gilead is thought to be the same distance from Hebron as Gilead is in the Bible.
The folks in Hebron look to the present and to the future as we watch our town grow!
